This riveting fantasy marks Melissa Marr’s return to the world of faery courts that made her Wicked Lovely series an international phenomenon.

Lilywhite Abernathy is a criminal—she’s half human, half fae, and since the time before she was born, a war has been raging between humans and faeries. The Queen of Blood and Rage, ruler of the fae courts, wants to avenge the tragic death of her heir due to the actions of reckless humans.

Lily’s father has always shielded her, but when she’s sent to the prestigious St. Columba’s school, she’s delivered straight into the arms of a fae sleeper cell—the Black Diamonds. The Diamonds are planted in the human world as the sons and daughters of the most influential families and tasked with destroying it from within. Against her will, Lilywhite’s been chosen to join them...and even the romantic attention of the fae rock singer Creed Morrison isn’t enough to keep Lily from wanting to run back to the familiar world she knows.

Melissa Marr returns to faery in a dramatic story of the precarious space between two worlds and the people who must thrive there. The combination of ethereal fae powers, tumultuous romance, and a bloodthirsty faery queen will have longtime fans and new readers at the edge of their seats.

Seven Black Diamonds...

Ever since the Wicked Lovely series, Melissa Marr has been one of my favorites. Her characters and world-building never fail to impress me, and she never fails to make me FEEL. Seven Black Diamonds was no exception. Wicked Lovely may still be my favorite of Marr's, but Seven Black Diamonds comes in at second without a doubt!

Man, what a cast of characters! In the first few chapters, as more and more new characters were introduced, I will admit to a little confusion. But once I started getting to know each of the characters as individuals, it was easy to know who was who. Lilywhite, Creed, Violet, Eilidh, Torquil, Rhys, Alkamy, Zephyr, Roan... Not to mention the various other names that make an appearance! But trust me, as confusing as it gets, you will catch on quickly. That is the beauty of Marr's. She knows how to characterize. The various relationships taking place between all of these wonderful and awful characters was fun to keep track of, and most of the time root for!

The world-building, as usual, was perfection. The differences between the human realm, and the Hidden Lands were wonderful. I loved the sensation of traveling between the realms, and experiencing the very different ways of life. Marr brings both of these worlds together, and makes them both shine. They are so easy to close your eyes and imagine.

There are a lot of plots running rampant throughout Seven Black Diamonds. As with the characters, it would be easy to get lost but I was so invested in the story that I never strayed. The entire story was full of different elements which drew different emotions from me. By the end of the book, I was trying my hardest to slow down, not wanting it to be over. I am genuinely excited for the sequel that is in store. I think it might be pretty darn incredible!

Seven Black Diamonds probably won't be for everyone. Even if you are a fan of faerie, it may not be appealing. But if you love complicated, and having to be fully present during a story, you might just love this one, too. Swoony romances, fast-paced action, nervous anticipation, and a queen with the name of The Queen of Blood and Rage, this was definitely my kind of book! I can't wait to continue the story!
