A devil is a bad influence . . .

There was a time when geeky, squeaky-clean Max Kilgore would never lie or steal or even think about murder. Then he accidentally unearths a devil, and Max’s choices are no longer his own. The big red guy has a penchant for couch surfing and junk food—and you should never underestimate evil on a sugar high.

With the help of Lore, a former goth girl who knows a thing or two about the dark side, Max is racing against the clock to get rid of the houseguest from hell before time, and all the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos this side of the fiery abyss, run out

My Thoughts

My first experience with Gina Damico was The Croak series, and it was a blast to read. Humor balanced perfectly with serious made a truly enjoyable experience. When I saw the sign-ups for Hellhole, I knew I had to jump on the chance. And I loved every second of reading this fabulously strange and quirky tale!

I don't want to go into detail about the story, because it is just best to go in blind. The experience is better that way. The widening of the eyes, the seriously wacky moments, the laughing your butt off.... Trust me, you don't want any of it spoiled for you.

Max, the MC, is a great character. He works his tail off at a gas station in order to provide for his very sick mother. At this gas station, Max steals a little something, and he winds up with a devil in his basement. Basically, the story revolves around figuring out how in the world to get rid of it!

Every one of the characters is unique, and they each very much individuals. Lore, the love interest, who is... a different character, for sure!, to Audie and her boyfriend, Max. The characters definitely were a huge part of my love for this story!

I am split in the middle about this being a standalone. On one hand, YAY!!! On the other, man I would love to revisit this story in a year. The best part though? I loved this, I loved the darker humor and the wacky situations, the quirk that is the characters, so much that I think this is going to be a re-read several times over.

I would absolutely recommend this book to someone who likes their humor dark, and has the ability to suspend disbelief, and still enjoy the story. I had a great time with Max, and I think a lot of other people will too!
