Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by bestselling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess---just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn’t going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simon’s Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family’s tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna’s aid under the fabled Lover’s Oak, he is blindsided by love.

Their lives are worlds apart. He’s a royal prince. She’s a ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel’s coronation.

It’s the ultimate choice. His kingdom or her heart? God’s will or their own?

Wow I loved this book!  Its funny, I am a total sucker for this cover.  I will admit- I have yet to find a contemporary Christian romance book that I didn't think was cheesy or dumb.  I found one.  This book was light, fluffy and a ton of fun.  It played out like a movie - and was sweet without the cheese.

I will be honest, the plot was a bit predictable.  I knew how the story was going to play out quite easily.  I have to say though, what I really enjoyed about this book was the world building.  The author created an entirely new country and fit it in nicely within today's world.  I found the author's references to pop culture appropriate and enriching to the story, rather than name dropping for the sake of name dropping.

All in all I really enjoyed this first of a new series.  I wish it were possible for this book to be a movie- I would want to see it for the sets and clothing!  If you are a fan of princess stories or princess movies- this is absolutely a book for you!
