Amelia Barrett gave her word. Keeping it could cost her everything.
Amelia Barrett, heiress to an estate nestled in the English moors, defies family expectations and promises to raise her dying friend's baby. She'll risk everything to keep her word-even to the point of proposing to the child's father-a sea captain she's never met.
When the child vanishes with little more than an ominous ransom note hinting at her whereabouts, Amelia and Graham are driven to test the boundaries of their love for this little one.
Amelia's detailed plans would normally see her through any trial, but now, desperate and shaken, she's forced to examine her soul and face her one weakness: pride.
Graham's strength and self-control have served him well and earned him much respect, but chasing perfection has kept him a prisoner of his own discipline. And away from the family he has sworn to love and protect.
Both must learn to have faith and relinquish control so they can embrace the future ahead of them.

The Heiress of Winterwood is a sweet and adventurous tale of a young woman who defies the life planned out for her to care for her friend's baby daughter. Amelia is a headstrong young woman who wants someone to love her for who she is, not for her money.  When her friend dies in childbirth, Amelia vows to care for the baby and never leave her side.  When the baby's father returns from sea, Amelia finds a way to both get out of her unwanted engagement and stay with baby Lucy.

The romance between Graham and Amelia was sweet and believable.  It wasn't rushed or instant love, but did take a bit of time to form.  The scenes between Graham and Amelia were my favorites- I wanted to know exactly how and when they would get together.  The author did a spectacular job with these two main characters.

The sweetest part of this story? That baby Lucy was not mentioned in fleeting- she really had a pivotal role in this book.  So many times the children are basically ignored in novels.  All of the characters interact with Lucy and give her so much love- it was fantastic to read.

The really built slowly- a majority of the action was int he last third of the book.  The Heiress of Winterwood is a lovely book and is recommended to fans of Jane Austen and Edwardian fiction.
