Summary taken from Goodreads:

Finley Jayne knows she's not 'normal'. Normal girls don't lose time, or have something inside them that makes them capable of remarkably violent things. Her behavior has already cost her one job, so when she's offered the lofty position of companion to Phoebe, a debutante recently engaged to Lord Vincent, she accepts, despite having no experience. Lord Vincent is a man of science with his automatons and inventions, but Finley is suspicious of his motives where Phoebe is concerned. She will do anything to protect her new friend, but what she discovers is even more monstrous than anything she could have imagined...
An ebook exclusive prequel to The Steampunk Chronicles.

What a fun story!  I love the Steampunk Chronicles and this was an excellent prequel to the series.  It was a little strange reading about a very young Finley and the problems that she has as she is developing her "powers".  I really enjoyed getting to know her as she is a little more innocent than in the Steel Corset. As always, Finley seems to attract trouble.

This time Finley is fired from a position for hitting a governess so hard that she makes her swallow her own teeth (although it was for noble reasons).  She is hired as a "secret body guard" to Phoebe, who is engaged to a man who is hiding many secrets.  Finley takes it upon herself to discover what Lord Vincent is hiding and is appalled by what she finds (In a Dr. Frankenstein sort of way.)

This story is tons of fun and is a quick read at around 75 pages.  It is packed full of action, with hints of the "Duke of Greythorne" (for readers of the other books- these are funny hints!  This would be a great addition to the reading pile of any fan of steampunk and a lovely introduction to the Steampunk Chronicles!
