Blogoversary Week: Day 2 +Giveaway!

Image
Welcome back to Short and Sweet Reviews!  I am so glad you are making this journey with me this week.  Today I wanted to talk about the people I have met.  I hope this is an encouraging post to my fellow book bloggers.  I remember what it was like 11 months ago- intimidating.  But there are so many resources out there and very friendly people out there! People: I don't pretend I am an expert about blogging.  I have learned so much in the last year, but there are still so many things I have no clue about.  There have been some absolutely wonderful people out there who have been helpful to me and willing to help a newbie when she was desperate to have any idea of how to make a successful blog.   Katie from Mundie Moms , Andye from Reading Teen , and Jen from I Read Banned Books have been so wonderful to answer random questions and be willing to talk and tweet someone that they have never talked to before. Damaris from Good Choice Reading is an all around awe

Blogoversary Week: Day 1 How it all started +Giveaway

Image
Thank you for stopping by Short and Sweet Reviews as we celebrate our first anniversary!   I started Short and Sweet Reviews a year ago this week.  All this week we will be celebrating with fun posts!  We won't have as many reviews this week (sorry), but we will be making up for it next week!  I hope you check back every day because we will be having giveaways each day until Friday!  Make sure you stop by on Thursday especially- we have a special scavenger hunt set up for you! I originally blogged (journaled) over at Live Journal.  I started that journal in 2002 (so this year would make 10 years for that one).  It still exists, but is mainly a personal journal where I talk about randomness and my son.  I hardly ever get over to LJ now, especially now that many of the people I "friended" are no longer on Live Journal.   I learned about the idea of blogging for books when one day I googled  something to the effect of free books.  Thomas Nelson had this c

As an unforgettable love triangle emerges, Josephine Angelini’s compelling saga becomes ever more intricate and spellbinding. The eagerly awaited sequel to the internationally bestselling Starcrossed, Dreamless delivers with a huge emotional impact that will leave readers satisfied—and longing for more. What are your favorite 600+ page reads?    The longest book I have read?  The Bible- that counts right?  As for a fiction book- my guess would be The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray (892 pages) or maybe Order of the Pheonix (870 pages). My favorite 600+ reads?  The Harry Potter books, the Twilight series (at the time- I am kind of over it now ha ha) ... except Breaking Dawn (not a fan), and the Eragon series. That was harder than I

Strange and tragic things begin to happen in the small town of Hallowell, Maine: residents come down with an unexplainable ‘illness’ and some disappear. In the midst of everything, Isaac Mayfair is adamant about keeping Adria safe, even from her sister whom he has warned her to stay away from. As unspeakable secrets unfold all around Adria, impossible choices become hers to bear. Ultimately, no matter what path she takes, her life and the lives of those she loves will be in peril. As she learns about the werewolf world she also learns why her place in it will change the destinies of many. My Review:  I loved this book.  LOVED it.  There are not many books out there that have made me obsessive, but this book is one of them.  I can't stop thinking about

Best Book Ever: Male Main Character

Image
Welcome to Best Book Ever!  Each week a group of authors, bloggers, and book lovers come together to give a shout out to their favorite books based on a specific theme.  This week our theme is: Week 16: Male Main Character Most of the books I read seem to be from a girl's point of view, but one of my favorite books ever is a girl's story told from a boy's eyes. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli - I still remember the first time I read it. The local children's librarian handed it to me and told me I was Stargirl. Watching Leo tell about Stargirl's arrival at Mica High, with all her homeschool-free spirit-blatant flaunting of normal high school convention? Yeah, it was a great read. I loved getting to see what Leo thought, and the way he offers not only his interpretation of the intriguing Stargirl, but also that of the entire school. It's a fun story with a poignant twist - and I was totally able to relate.   Rebecca @ A Word

Magic Under Stone

Magic Under Stone By Jaclyn Dolamore Published by Bloomsbury Published on  February 28, 2012 Summary taken from Goodreads : For star-crossed lovers Nimira and Erris, there can be no happily ever after until Erris is freed from the clockwork form in which his soul is trapped. And so they go in search of the sorcerer Ordorio Valdana, hoping he will know how to grant Erris real life again. When they learn that Valdana has mysteriously vanished, it's not long before Nimira decides to take matters into her own hands—and begins to study the sorcerer's spell books in secret. Yet even as she begins to understand the power and limitations of sorcery, it becomes clear that freeing Erris will bring danger—if not out-and-out war—as factions within the faerie world are prepared to stop at nothing to prevent him from regaining the throne. The cover:  I will say that for the first book, I enjoyed the white hand drawn cover more than the cover t
