House of Furies...

This was a fun, dark, fast-paced little story and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It might not have been the YA horror that I have been looking for (for a long time), but it satisfied my craving of dark and creepy just fine.

Louisa Ditton is found in a little town, selling "futures" for pennies. After trying to buy some food with a bit of gold, Louisa is chased out of town and runs into the same old woman who gave her the gold. She is offered a job as a maid at a Manor, nothing fancy or glorious, but it will get her off of the streets. And she may be able to make enough money, or poach enough expensive stuff, to gain passage to America. When she arrives at Coldthistle, she immediately senses that something is off. The more of the houses employees that she meets, the more her sense of doom grows. And when she finally meets the master of the house, Louisa knows she needs to run as fast as she can. The only problem? Leaving would mean leaving Lee, a young man staying at the Manor with his uncle, to a fate he doesn't deserve. Or does he?

This was a fun book. It was well-written and intriguing enough to keep and hold my attention. I enjoyed the search for answers that Louisa finds herself on, and the answers even more. There is a quirkiness to Roux's writing that I really like. I haven't read any of her other stories but I plan to change that soon.

Great characters, incredibly interesting premise, and an awesome old house that I would love to explore... and a great cover to boot. I am definitely looking forward to whats to come for the Manor and all of its inhabitants in the story to come.
