In the future, humans live in city-like spaceships orbiting far above Earth's toxic atmosphere. No one knows when, or even if, the long-abandoned planet will be habitable again. But faced with dwindling resources and a growing populace, government leaders know they must reclaim their homeland... before it's too late.

Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents are being sent on a high-stakes mission to recolonize Earth. After a brutal crash landing, the teens arrive on a savagely beautiful planet they've only seen from space. Confronting the dangers of this rugged new world, they struggle to form a tentative community. But they're haunted by their past and uncertain about the future. To survive, they must learn to trust - and even love - again.

Okay, so I have had this book on my kindle since the summer of 2013- shameful really.  I wanted to read it, but other review books kept getting in my way.  On a moment of spontaneity, I decided to open up the 100 and found myself really enjoying this... space opera perhaps?  I am not really sure what to define it as- scifi?  Adventure? Dystopian?

Well, then I found out on Netflix that it was a show, so I began to watch it.  The show was ruthless- high impact and killing off main characters from the book right and left.  I have to say, I was both enthralled and frustrated by the show- it was exciting and entertaining, but it didn't use a great deal of the source material.  Going back to the book, I found it rather boring and I found the show to be without heart.

Moral of the story, kids.  Don't want the tv/ movie version until AFTER you have finished the book.  I finished this one, but won't be continuing with the series.
