A matter of secrets...
Undercover cop Logan "Kash" Ryan can't afford a distraction like his new neighbor Rachel Masters, even if she's the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. To catch a serial killer, he needs to stay focused, yet all he can think about is the feisty, long-legged coed whose guarded nature intrigues him
A matter of lies...
Deceived and hurt before, Rachel would rather be a single, crazy cat lady than trust another guy, especially a gorgeous, tattooed bad boy with a Harley, like Kash. But when his liquid-steel eyes meet hers, it takes all of Rachel's will-power to stop herself from exploring his hot body with her own.
A matter of love...
As much as they try to keep it platonic, the friction between them sparks an irresistible heat that soon consumes them. Can Kash keep Rachel's heart and her life safe even as he risks his own? Will she be able to forgive his lies ... or will she run when she discovers the dangerous truth?
Mmm... Mmm... Mmm... Kick-butt female main character, super swoon-worthy hunk of a male main character. Funny, adorable, sometimes annoying secondary characters. And, that one person you really kind of hope bites it in the end.
This is my favorite of McAdams' books. She served up a strong dual POV story line, no insta-love, and tactfully tackles the topic of rape. It was witty and fun, it was serious and dramatic, and it was a page-turner from beginning to end. I absolutely loved it!
Rachel is a no-nonsense woman who's had her share of misery. Her parents died and she became adrift on her life raft, a.k.a. Candice. When we meet Rachel, she's basically been tagging along on Candice's heels because she doesn't know what she wants, but she doesn't want to be alone. Candice is basically a flighty cheerleader type, but she seems totally dedicated to her BFF, until Rachel tells her the truth about Blake. Blake, Candice's cousin, seems to be the bad boy on the outside, but really just a big sweetheart in disguise... until things take a turn for the worst one night. Kash and Mason, undercover cops from Florida replanted to Texas to lay low because a job that went terribly wrong left them with targets on their heads. So, now they're investigating a serial killer.
Be prepared to be drawn into Kash and Rachel's friendship turned love story. Their bickering is totally adorable. That playful, yet lovable back and forth banter makes for highly entertaining reading. I loved Rachel and Kash. Mason was the solid, steadfast friend that you can't help but adore. Candice... well, most of the time, I kind of wanted to slap Candice... hard... with a hammer.
And, Blake...
After you fall in like, then love, with this book, you'll be treated to a cliffhanger! But, don't worry, because you can run right out and get Deceiving Lies (Forgiving Lies, #2). ;)
