Gwen’s life has been a rollercoaster since she discovered she was the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve. In between searching through history for the other time-travelers and asking for a bit of their blood (gross!), she’s been trying to figure out what all the mysteries and prophecies surrounding the Circle really mean.

At least Gwen has plenty of help. Her best friend Lesley follows every lead diligently on the Internet. James the ghost teaches Gwen how to fit in at an eighteenth century party. And Xemerius, the gargoyle demon who has been following Gwen since he caught her kissing Gideon in a church, offers advice on everything. Oh, yes. And of course there is Gideon, the Diamond. One minute he’s very warm indeed; the next he’s freezing cold. Gwen’s not sure what’s going on there, but she’s pretty much destined to find out.
Sapphire Blue is the second installment in this series.  I can't neccesarily say it was a filler book- but technically it was.  Not a whole lot happened in the book- it really was doing a lot of building for the third book in the series.  It is interesting.  While I am writing this review- I have already read the entire series.  I was so frustrated reading Sapphire Blue- it felt like the middle of a book.  This series really does read like one long book. Don't get me wrong- if I wouldn't have read this one, I wouldn't have understood much of what happens in the third book.  This book seems to be mostly groundwork for the conclusion.

I was still iffy about Gwen and Gideon in this book, but I absolutely LOVED Xemerius.  I think he is my favorite character of the entire series.  I absolutely adored him.  He was the comic relief and biting wit that this book really needed.  All in all this was a solid second book, but it did verge on filler tendencies.
