Guest Post & Giveaway: E.C. Myers, author of Quantum Coin
Our month-long Second Anniversary Celebration is winding to its end, but we've still got a few great surprises and, shall we say, books up our sleeves? Today we've got a great guest post and giveaway from E.C. Myers, author of Fair Coin and Quantum Coin. He's a regular participant in our Best Book Ever feature and has definitely added more than a few books to my to-read list!
Today, he's joining us to talk about his own favorite Best Books Ever, and his love of sharing favorite stories with the people in his life. And he's offering a fantastic, generous giveaway: one winner will receive copies of his two favorite books: Interstellar Pig by William Sleator, and The Silver Crown by Robert C. O'Brien. Keep scrolling to read his post, and don't forget to enter to win!
Many of the books I select for the weekly “best book ever” posts are childhood favorites that have stuck with me for more than twenty-five years. Of course, there have been many wonderful books written before and since, but I think there’s a special magic to those books that you discover when you’re young — the ones that somehow you think of as yours. Back then, there was no such thing as a book blog, so the only people I could discuss these books with were my friends and my older sister, who was never as interested in what I was reading as I was in her books.
In a sense, I’ve been waiting all this time for a blog like The Best Books Ever so I could share some of the books that mean a lot to me with other readers who are passionate about great stories. This series has been a terrific way for me to highlight books that others may have missed and to connect with those who remember them as fondly as I do. And it’s also helped remind me of books I hadn’t thought about in years and introduced me to others that I’ve somehow missed.
I have been thrilled to contribute to the Best Book Ever posts for the last two years and be part of a community of book lovers who read such a broad range of literature. In honor of the two-year anniversary of the series and this shiny new website, I’m going to give away copies of my two best Best Books Ever.
I think that in every interview about books that have had a major impact on my writing, I’ve mentioned two in particular:Interstellar Pig by William Sleator and The Silver Crown by Robert C. O’Brien. Interstellar Pig is the first science fiction book I remember reading, which obviously changed my life, and I never forgot The Silver Crown after I read it as a kid, even though I wasn’t able to track down a copy of my own until I was an adult because it had gone out of print for a time. I love giving these books as gifts to my friends and young family members — they’re some of the most personal presents I can give someone — and I look forward to sharing them with one lucky reader of this blog. I look forward to hearing what you think of them, and I hope you will share them with others!
E.C. Myers was assembled in the U.S. from Korean and German parts and raised by a single mother and a public library in Yonkers, New York. He has published short fiction in a variety of print and online magazines and anthologies, and his young adult novels, Fair Coin and Quantum Coin, are available now from Pyr Books. He currently lives with his wife, a doofy cat, and a mild-mannered dog in Philadelphia and shares way too much information about his personal life at ecmyers.net and on Twitter @ecmyers.
Here's your change to enter to win new paperback copies of Interstellar Pig and The Silver Crown! This giveaway is open internationally. Good luck!
