Stung

Image
Stung By  Bethany Wiggins Published on April 2nd 2013 Published by Walker Childrens Source: Netgalley There is no cure for being stung. Fiona doesn’t remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered—her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right hand—a black oval with five marks on either side—that she doesn’t remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost. She’s right. Those bearing the tattoo have turned into mindless, violent beasts that roam the streets and sewers, preying upon the unbranded while a select few live protected inside a fortress-like wall, their lives devoted to rebuilding society and killing all who bear the mark. Now Fiona has awakened branded, alone—and on the wrong side of the wall. My feelings about this book can be summed up pretty easily in one GIF: Because at first I was all YES THIS IS AWES

A Touch of Scarlet

Image
A Touch of Scarlet By Eve Marie Mont Published on March 26, 2013 Published by Kensington Teen Source: Publisher for Review Emma Townsend is back at prestigious Lockwood Prep, but her world has altered immeasurably since her tumultuous sophomore year. The best change of all: her boyfriend, Gray. And though Gray is leaving for Coast Guard training, Emma feels newly optimistic, even if the pain of her mother’s long-ago death still casts a shadow. Yet Emma isn’t the only one who’s changed. Her friend and roommate, Michelle, is strangely remote, and old alliances are shifting in disconcerting ways. Soon Emma’s long-distance relationship with Gray is straining under the pressure, and Emma wonders if she’s cracking too. How else to explain the vivid dreams of Hester Prynne she’s been having since she started reading The Scarlet Letter? Or the way she’s found herself waking in the woods? As her life begins to echo events in the novel, Emma will be forced to choose between

Image
Everbound By Brodi Ashton Published on January 22, 2013 Published by Harper Teen Source: Publisher for Review Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sac

Unravel Me

Image
Unravel Me By Tahereh Mafi Published on February 5, 2013 Published by Harper Teen Source: Publisher For Review tick tick tick tick tick it's almost time for war. Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance. She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch. Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible. Oh man.  Oh man.  Oh man. End of Review. No really- this book.  Ok, so I read Shatter Me.  I thought it was good, but absolutely not the best book ever.  I decided to give Unravel Me a chance (mainly because of Chapter 62).  THIS BOOK!  It has made me completely unable to make coherent thoughts.  I neglected my family, my house, everything so I could devour this book. Unravel Me is ruthless.  It is fast paced act

A Tangle of Knots

Image
A Tangle of Knots By  Lisa Graff Published on February 12, 2013 Published by Philomel Source: Publisher for Review Told in multiple viewpoints, A Tangle of Knots is a magnificent puzzle. In a slightly magical world where everyone has a Talent, eleven-year-old Cady is an orphan with a phenomenal Talent for cake baking. But little does she know that fate has set her on a journey from the moment she was born. And her destiny leads her to a mysterious address that houses a lost luggage emporium, an old recipe, a family of children searching for their own Talents, and a Talent Thief who will alter her life forever. However, these encounters hold the key to Cady's past and how she became an orphan. If she's lucky, fate may reunite her with her long-lost parent. A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff is spectacular! I loved this book from the first word to the last. It is different strands of one intricately woven story! Each chapter gives you a look at one character and h

This heart-pounding sequel to Grave Mercy serves betrayal, treachery, and danger in equal measure, bringing readers back

Best Book Ever: Classics

Image
This week for Best Book Ever, I wanted to talk about books that don't always get a lot of love in the blogging world: the classics . We spend a lot of time talking about hot new books, but there are books that have endured for generations. Check out our selections and let us know what you think in the comments. This is a no-brainer for me. My favorite classic of all time is Jane Eyre ; it's the only book I'm able to reread year after year without getting bored. This book has it all: an underdog heroine, a brooding hero, romance, mystery, and betrayal. I always joke that if I ever make it "JK Rowling-rich" I'll finance a remake of the film, because none of the adaptations are close enough to the book for my liking. (So let's get to work on making me "JK Rowling-rich," okay?) Melissa Landers - Alienated  (February 1, 2014; Disney Hyperion) Oh, the classics... I actually love them. I try to squeeze in at least one (goal is two) a year, an

Marco Impossible

Image
Marco Impossible By  Hannah Moskowitz Published on March 19, 2013 Published by: Roaring Brook Press Source: ARC from publisher Thirteen-year-old best friends Stephen and Marco attempt a go-for-broke heist to break into the high school prom and get Marco onstage to confess his love for (and hopefully steal the heart of) Benji, the adorable exchange student and bass player of the prom band. Of course, things don't always go according to plan, and every heist comes with its fair share of hijinks. Y'all, I'll be straight up. This book has done something impossible: it's a middle grade book that I loved.  Technically, it's probably right on the cusp between middle grade and young adult, but still.  This book is everything I've ever wanted out of a book aimed at tweens/young teens and have never gotten before. The writing is simple and fast-paced enough to keep readers engaged, but there is enough depth and emotion to satisfy even older, picker readers
