The Cover: This is a very lovely cover. The main color of the cover is a mint green with touches of sage green. The girl is very pretty and the clothing she is wearing is reflective of the time period that the book is set in. I am a big fan of the covers on this series- they almost look like paintings.
The Characters: I really like Lucy's character. She is incredibly shy and introverted- wanting nothing to do with the society that her parents have thrust her into. Yet, as she nears the ocean, she finds herself bolder and more willing to break away from her parents. I can't go into detail, but a villian emerges in this book- and holy cow is this person evil! I found myself completely surprised and blown away by how horrible this person is (and seemingly out of nowhere).
The Story: This is the third book in this series about mermaids. I had not read the first two books, and other than not knowing the characters as well as I would have liked, I didn't feel hindered in any way. The book centers around three sisters who are all mermaids. Each book tells the story about how each sister "awakens". This book reads very fast with a large font and easy words. I could easily see younger teens enjoying this book. The last 50 pages of this book blew me away. I thought this was going to be the last book in the series, but the ending of this story blew that assumption away. The author is gifted at making horrible and unbelievable cliffhangers. I won't go into detail, but I can't wait for the next book in the series- simply so I know what happens!
