Summary taken from Goodreads:
Violet McKenna thought she was just crazy when she had a vivid vision of her dad's murder. Her life started falling apart when her premonition came true. She's had flashes of other events too. The problem was nobody believed her until she found a new school: Winterhaven

The Cover: The cover is initially what drew me to this book.  It is very unlike any other covers out on the market in the YA section. It is very simple, very direct, and has very dark coloring.  I understand the significance of the books, but I am still a little confused on the significance of the butterfly.  It doesn't take away from the beauty of the cover though.  It is very unlike YA covers and I appreciate that.

The Characters:  I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this book.  The author did a fantastic job developing all of the minor characters in this book.  It really felt like a book I would want to see on television.  I want to see what these characters look like- I have grown so fond of them!  Violet and Aiden were a fun couple.  I feel like I didn't get to know everything I want to from them in this book- and I am glad there are more books in the series.  They both have such interesting histories that I hope I get to learn more about them in Mirage.  I appreciated that Violet and Aiden were not the "perfect couple" and that they immediately didn't fall in love and want to get married and have babies.  They fought, had misunderstandings, and felt strongly about each other- it felt like an authentic teenage romance.

The Story: This wasn't at all what I expected. The blurb about the book and the cover really give nothing away about what the story is really about- and I appreciate that.  This was one book where I really went into it having absolutely no idea what it was about.  It started as one story and then something large happens (sorry I won't spoil it) and the story changes completely.  I have to say, I didn't really expect it.  The author's writing is easy and enjoyable to read and she is gifted at writing an exciting and emotional narrative.  I am really lookng forward to the second book- because although the main problem was resolved, so many other things in the first book were not resolved.

Goodreads Summary on Mirage:

Seventeen-year-old Violet McKenna is back for her senior year at Winterhaven, and thrilled to be with Aidan after a long summer apart.
