Can Maria V. Snyder do any wrong? I loved the Poison Study series and was very excited when I realized that this series was a spin- off of the first. I love Opal Cowen! In the Poison Study series she seemed like a pushover. I was surprised that this series was completely about Opal- mainly because she seemed like a little leaf that would crumble at the first sight of danger. Boy was I wrong! I love how Opal's character evolved and how the last chapters in Fire Study really changed who she was.
I loved seeing how Opal grew up. Although she had performed many selfless acts, Opal was still a very selfish and inward focusing person. I loved how she both came out of her shell, and started to look more at the people around her.
I need more Kade! I am dying to get the next book so I can find out what happens with this relationship! This was a book where I wanted to shake Opal and say "Can't you see who really cares about you? Stop making stupid decisions!" I hope that I will find out more about Kade and Opal's relationship in the second book.
To be vague, certain parts of the book made me really angry. I have noticed a theme in both of these series about HOW women are mistreated- and it makes me upset. After some thought though, I know that being upset at a book is a good thing- I am supposed to be upset. It means that the book is changing me and affecting me- a great thing!
