Blood Rights blog tour: Stop Two

Blood Rights
By Kristen Painter
Expected Publication: October 1, 2011
Published by:  Orbit Books

Summary taken from Goodreads:

The lacy gold mapped her entire body. A finely-wrought filigree of stars, vines, flowers, butterflies, ancient symbols and words ran from her feet, up her legs, over her narrow waist, spanned her chest and finished down her arms to the tips of her fingers.

Born into a life of secrets and service, Chrysabelle’s body bears the telltale marks of a comarré—a special race of humans bred to feed vampire nobility. When her patron is murdered, she becomes the prime suspect, which sends her running into the mortal world…and into the arms of Malkolm, an outcast vampire cursed to kill every being from whom he drinks.

Now Chrysabelle and Malkolm must work together to stop a plot to merge the mortal and supernatural worlds. If they fail, a chaos unlike anything anyone has ever seen will threaten to reign.

First of all- look at that cover- it is so beautiful!  The design on Chrysabelle's body is lovely to look at- the artist who created this cover should be proud.  It will absolutely stand out on bookshelves.

Here is a closer picture of the markings on the main character's skin:

Just exquisite- it reminds me of henna.  This above picture is actually a close up of the second book.  The series of three books will be released in three consecutive months- excellent for readers who don't want to have to wait to find out what happens to the main characters.

But lets get back to the actual book.  The book started a little confusing for me- it wasn't at all what I expected (really my fault since I picked the book simply for its cover and didn't bother to actually READ the summary ha ha!).  It is about vampires- but it is much more geisha girl meets Buffy the Vampire slayer than Twilight or Blue Bloods.  The story is set in the not so distant future and revolves around one girl who is a fugitive blamed for the murder of her patron.  The books starts right in with action and doesn't bother with explaining much to the reader.  I enjoyed the pace of this book and my confusion about what was going on ended about a third of the way into the book.

The pacing of this book was brutal- I never wanted to put it down! It was exciting, passionate, and everything a good vampire novel should be.  I will admit- I spent some time wondering if this was meant to be published as a young adult novel or an adult fantasy novel.  By the time I was done reading though- I noticed for all the passionate buildup- nothing happened between the two characters.  (Tricky author, making me come back for more!)

Anyone who loves Buffy, a good fantasy story, or vampires will enjoy this story.  It also had the same feel of Cassandra Clare's novels (which is a great compliment from me- she is one of my favorite authors!)  So- go check this story out!

Here are the covers for the following two books- out in November and December!

Thanks to Good Choice Reading and Orbit books for allowing me the chance to read this book early!  If you want to read the other reviews on the blog tour for Blood Rights- check out this link at Good Choice Reading!
