Glamorous Illusions by Lisa T Bergren BLOG TO

Welcome to Day One of the Glamorous Illusions tour!  I am very excited and honored to kick off a tour for one of my favorite books and favorite authors!

It was the summer of 1913, and Cora Kensington's life on the family farm has taken a dark turn. Not only are the crops failing, so is her father's health. Cora is carrying on, helping her mother run their Montana farm until a stranger comes to call, and everything changes. Cora then learns a secret that will radically change her future: she is the illegitimate daughter of a copper king who has come to claim her.

Cora is invited to take the "Grand Tour" of Europe, a journey intended to finish a person's education, to solidify an understanding of ancient culture and contemporary refinement. As she travels from England to France with half-siblings she's never known, Cora encounters the blessings of the Kensington family name, as well as the curses. But when an unbidden love begins to form, she realizes the journey is only beginning.

Faced with the challenge of accepting her father, new family, and the identity that comes with it, Cora also struggles to accept that she is also the daughter of the one true King-a Father who is the only One who can truly heal.

Coranne's Thoughts:

What a satisfying book!  I was immediately drawn to this cover- this has to be one of the most beautiful covers of 2012, and absolutely the most beautiful Christian Historical Fiction cover that I have been lucky enough to see (and I have read a ton of Christian fiction).  I immediately wanted to like Cora (that is where Coranne comes from, you know).  Cora returns home for the summer from school to find her home not as she left it.  After a few shocking revelations about her family, Cora is asked to join her newly discovered brothers and sisters on a tour of Europe, while her father heals.  This is where a majority of the story takes place.

The author takes her time building the story- there are plenty of moments of excitement and anxiety for the main character, but the author gives her characters time to grow and doesn't rush any of the storyline.  The ending of Glamorous Illusions is pretty painful- what a agonizing plot twist for the reader!  I have come to expect only the best from this author and she has not failed me.  She writes with passion, with heart, and makes her characters come to life in a way that is very rare.  I would love to see this book as movie (if only to the the beautiful costumes).  I can't wait to read the second book in this series- if you are a fan of  Lisa's other books (especially her River of Time series) or simply someone who is looking for a book that will make you sigh with satisfaction- this is the book for you!
